How to Make the Christmas in Heaven AI Video (One More Hug)

The quickest way to make a Christmas in Heaven AI video is to upload two photos to Try a Trend, one of you and one of the mom, dad or grandparent you're missing this year: you get a 10-second vertical video of you climbing a staircase of glowing steps above the clouds to a lit Christmas tree, where they're waiting to hug you, and you see a free preview of the two of you together before you pay.

What is the Christmas in Heaven trend?

Every December, TikTok and Instagram fill up with "Christmas in heaven" posts: people marking their first Christmas without a parent or grandparent, or simply saying merry Christmas to someone who still has a place at the table in their heart. Most of these posts are home videos, old photos or a candle with a line of text over it. In Spanish the same posts usually say "Feliz Navidad hasta el cielo", merry Christmas all the way to heaven.

The AI version puts you in the picture with them. It borrows the shots of the hug in heaven CapCut template that went viral before Father's Day 2026, where you run up golden stairs in the clouds and into a parent's arms, and moves the scene to Christmas: a tree full of warm lights at the top of the stairs and snow drifting through the sunbeams.

It's a way of telling someone you miss them at the time of year when their absence is loudest. It doesn't claim to bring anyone back, and that's a big part of why it feels gentle rather than strange.

What happens in the video, second by second

Our video follows the same shots as the most-liked hug in heaven clip we studied, about 10 seconds long, set on Christmas:

  • 0 to 1 second: seen from behind, you're climbing a wide staircase through a sea of white clouds, each step lit gold along its edge. At the very top, small and far away, a Christmas tree glows with your loved one standing beside it.
  • About 1 to 3 seconds: they open their arms wide and wait for you, smiling, while snowflakes drift down through the light.
  • About 3 to 5.5 seconds: you keep climbing, the tree and your mom or dad grow bigger in the frame, they come forward and you fall into their arms. Over your shoulder you see them beaming.
  • About 5.5 to 7 seconds: cut to a close-up. You're crying with your eyes shut; they tilt their head back and laugh up at the sky with a hand on the back of your head, the tree lights blurred behind you.
  • About 7 to 10 seconds: the camera pulls back and keeps going, until you're two small figures holding each other beside the glowing tree on the top step, above an endless sea of clouds.

The moments that make it land are the climb seen from behind, the open arms by the tree, the close-up of two faces you know, and the long pull-back at the end.

Three ways to make the Christmas in Heaven AI video

1. A CapCut template

CapCut, the free video editor from the company behind TikTok, has plenty of grief and Christmas templates. Tap "Use template" under a clip you like, or search "christmas in heaven" or "hug in heaven" in the Templates tab, add your photos and export.

Good: free to try, and quick if you find the one you want.

Not so good: the most-liked Christmas in heaven template we found is text over snowy stock footage, with no people in it at all, and many others are candles, skies or fireworks with a caption. Templates that do place you and your loved one in a scene come and go, some add an ending card, and an old or black-and-white photo can come out flat.

Best for: people who want a quick text-and-music post rather than a scene with both of you in it.

2. A general AI video tool like Kling or Runway

General AI video tools can turn two photos into a scene from a written description, but you set up everything yourself.

  1. Upload both photos and describe the setting: clouds, a glowing staircase, a decorated tree, soft snow, warm light.
  2. Write the shots in order: the climb from behind, your loved one opening their arms, the close-up of the hug, the slow pull-back.
  3. Generate, check that both faces still look right, and try again until they do.

Good: full control over the tree, the light, the clothes and the length.

Not so good: you write and tune the prompt yourself, and keeping two faces recognisable while they hug is one of the hardest things for these tools. Every attempt uses credits; most give a few free ones, then sell monthly plans or credit packs.

Best for: people who enjoy experimenting and already pay for one of these tools.

3. A two-photo generator (Try a Trend)

On Try a Trend the Christmas scene is already built, so you only bring the photos.

  1. 1Upload a clear photo of yourself, then one of the mom, dad or grandparent you're missing; a scanned print or a black-and-white photo works if the face is sharp.
  2. 2Confirm both photos show you and your own family member, each 18 or older in the photo.
  3. 3Check your free preview. If you like it, get the full video.
  4. 4Download in a few minutes and add a gentle Christmas song or the trending sound on TikTok.

Your 10-second video opens behind you on the glowing stairs. Your mom or dad waits at the top next to a tall tree twinkling with lights, opens their arms and comes forward to meet you. Then it cuts close: you in tears, them laughing with a hand on your head. The camera slowly drifts back until the two of you and the tree are tiny against the clouds, with snow still falling. Each video is $7.99.

Good: no template hunting, no photo restoration and no editing. A faded, scanned or black-and-white photo is fine: your loved one appears in full colour, with their own face, hair, glasses or beard and the clothes from the photo, and you keep your own look too. You see a free preview of the hug before paying. There are no angels, wings or religious figures, so it fits any family.

Not so good: the scene is fixed, the video is silent so you choose the song yourself, and it's an AI-made tribute, not real footage of the person.

Best for: anyone facing a Christmas without a parent or grandparent who wants a finished, gentle video to post on Christmas Eve or to send to family.

Tips for photos that work

  • Your photo: just you, face clearly visible, head and shoulders or waist up, in good light. What you wear in the photo is what you wear in the video, so a cosy sweater works nicely.
  • Their photo: one person, face sharp and turned toward the camera. Crop out anyone else first.
  • Printed photos are fine. Lay the print flat near a window, take the picture straight on without glare, and crop out the table and the white border.
  • Black-and-white and faded photos are welcome too, as long as the face is clear. A tiny or blurry photo gives the AI less to work with.
  • Pick a photo where they look the way you remember them at Christmas: their glasses, a favourite cardigan, that smile.
  • Only use photos of yourself and your own family member that you have the right to use, of people who were 18 or older. No celebrities or public figures.

What to post it with

  • Sound: a soft piano carol, a quiet acoustic song, or a trending sound from TikTok's library, where it is licensed.
  • Hashtags: #christmasinheaven, #merrychristmasinheaven, #mominheaven, #dadinheaven and, in Spanish, #navidadenelcielo or #feliznavidadhastaelcielo.
  • A caption in your own words: their name, a Christmas memory, or simply "merry Christmas in heaven". "First Christmas without you" is common when it's the first one.
  • When to share it: Christmas Eve, Christmas morning, New Year's Eve, or the day you put up the tree. You can also send it privately to siblings and cousins instead of posting it.

FAQ

No. Try a Trend is an independent AI tool that makes its own Christmas in heaven video from your two photos. We're not affiliated with CapCut, TikTok or any template creator.

Is there a Spanish version of this page?

Yes. You can make the same video from the Spanish page. If you'd like the same hug in the clouds without the Christmas tree, any time of year, there's Mom & Dad in Heaven.
