Privacy Policy
Last updated 31 October 2026.
This policy explains what Chenhao Huang (ABN 76 628 118 781), the operator of Try a Trend, collects, why, and what happens to it. We are based in Victoria, Australia, and we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
The short version
- You don't need an account. We don't ask for your name.
- Photos and preview images are deleted within 72 hours. Videos and their poster photos are deleted 72 hours after they're made.
- We never use your photos to train AI models, and we never sell your personal information.
- We use one advertising tool, the Meta Pixel, to measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram (see Meta Pixel below). No other advertising or third-party analytics trackers. We also note which website or link brought you here, and your approximate country and type of device.
- We keep the email you enter at checkout only for receipts, refunds and restoring your credits.
- If you ask us to email you when a holiday trend is ready, we send that one email and then delete your address.
- If you unsubscribe from our emails, we keep your address on a do-not-email list so we never email you marketing again.
- If someone sends you a gift, we use your email only to deliver it.
What we collect
- Photos you upload. Location and other hidden data (EXIF) are removed as soon as you upload.
- Background photos you upload, on trends that let you pick your own background. We use them only to place your pet in that scene for your preview and video. They are checked and deleted the same way as your other photos.
- The result of the safety check on each photo.
- Preview images, videos and poster photos we make for you.
- An anonymous browser ID (stored in a cookie), your credit balance, a record of each video you make (which trend, when, and whether it worked), and the days on which you uploaded a photo, shared your preview or opened checkout. These records don't contain images.
- Approximate country and device type, noted with your anonymous browser ID when you upload a photo, make a free preview, open checkout or complete a payment, for statistics only. The country comes from Cloudflare, which works it out from your IP address; we keep only the two-letter country code, not the IP address. The device type is a rough category worked out from your browser: phone, tablet or computer, the operating system (such as iOS or Android), and whether you use Safari, Chrome or a browser inside another app (such as TikTok or Instagram). We don't store your IP address or your browser's full identifying details for this.
- How you found us: the website you came from (only its domain, such as google.com, never the full address), the campaign tags in the link you clicked (such as utm_source=tiktok) and the first page you opened. Your browser keeps this, and the time of your last visit, for up to 13 months; when you upload a photo or buy credits, it is sent to us and stored with your anonymous browser ID. When you open the site, your browser also sends the time of your last visit; we only keep how many days ago that was, so we can count visitors without giving you an ID. We don't record your IP address for this and we don't track you across other sites.
- Purchase details: the email you enter at checkout, the credit pack, the amount, the date and the payment reference. We never see or store your full card number.
- Gifts: if you buy a gift, the recipient's email (only if you ask us to email them), the name and message you write, the delivery date and your time zone, and your checkout email so we can send you the gift links and delivery notices. Gift codes are stored only as a scrambled (hashed) version. When a gift is opened, we note which anonymous browser ID opened it and when.
- Restore requests: the email you enter. Restore links work once, expire after 30 minutes, and we only store a scrambled (hashed) version of them.
- Trend requests: the TikTok link you send us, your note if you write one, your anonymous browser ID and the time, so we can see how many people want each trend. Only if you tick “Email me when this trend is ready” do we also keep the email you enter.
- Holiday reminders: only if you tap “Email me” to hear when a holiday trend (such as our Christmas trends) is ready: the email you enter, or the checkout email you confirm, plus your anonymous browser ID (so you can see or remove your sign-up on the page), the page language, whether you were making a trend with people, a pet or a car, and the time.
- Meta Pixel events: when you open a page, upload a photo that passes the safety check, see your free preview, go to checkout or complete a payment, this is reported to Meta with the trend's name and, for checkout and payments, the price and a payment reference. See Meta Pixel below.
- Technical information such as your IP address and browser, which we use briefly to stop abuse (for example, to limit free previews). Our server error logs don't contain photos or full email addresses.
- Messages you send to [email protected].
How we use it
- To check your photo and make the preview and video you asked for.
- To keep your credits and videos linked to your browser.
- To process payments, help with receipts, give refunds and restore credits.
- To deliver gifts: we email the recipient once on the date the buyer picked, and email the buyer the gift links, a delivery notice or a note if delivery failed. We never add a gift recipient to any list or email them about anything else.
- To decide which trends to build next and, if you asked us to, to email you once when the trend you requested, or the holiday trend you asked about, goes live. We don't use that email for anything else: no newsletters and no other marketing.
- To see which websites and links bring visitors and at which step people stop (for example, after the free preview), and whether checkout works in every country and on every kind of device, so we know where to spend our time. We look at totals per source, country and device type, not at individuals.
- To measure whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram bring visitors and purchases, and to show those ads to people who are more likely to be interested, using the Meta Pixel.
- To prevent fraud and abuse and to enforce our Terms of Use.
- To meet our legal obligations, such as keeping tax records.
We don't use your photos to identify anyone, we don't build or store face templates or other biometric identifiers, and apart from the Meta Pixel events described below, we don't use your information for advertising or profiling.
Automated safety check
Every photo is checked by an AI model before we use it, to make sure it shows only adults, is not explicit, and is a personal photo rather than a press or celebrity photo. The check never tries to identify who anyone is. Photos that don't pass are deleted right away. If we can't confirm everyone is 18 or older, we ask for a different photo rather than taking a chance.
Photos for the few family and holiday trends that accept children get the same check, except that a child in the photo is not a reason to turn it away. Instead, if the check sees that someone may be under 18, it is stricter about clothing: the photo must show everyone fully dressed in everyday clothes, with no swimwear, bare chests or revealing clothes. Before making a preview or video, we ask you to confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of any child pictured.
Photos for pet trends get a different check: it makes sure the photo is a real photo of one animal, shows no person's face, and is not explicit, violent or cruel to animals. Because photos with a visible face are turned away, this check doesn't estimate anyone's age.
Photos for vehicle trends are checked to make sure they are a real photo of one whole vehicle and are not explicit or violent. If a person can be seen in the photo, the check also looks at whether they could be under 18, the same way as for other photos; if we can't confirm everyone is an adult, we ask for a photo of just the vehicle.
Background photos get their own check: they must show a place with no people at all, nothing explicit or violent, and no readable signs, text or logos. Background photos that don't pass are deleted right away.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that help us run Try a Trend, and only what each one needs:
- AI providers, through OpenRouter (United States). Your photos and our instructions are sent to make previews and videos and to run the safety check. We currently use Alibaba Cloud (Wan), xAI (Grok Imagine) and MiniMax (Hailuo) for videos, Google (Gemini) for preview images and safety checks, and Anthropic (Claude) for safety checks. Our account is set to exclude providers that use request data to train their models.
- fal (United States), for trends that follow a reference video we made ourselves. For trends that copy a set of dance or kung fu moves, the first frame of your preview (your pet placed in the chosen or uploaded background) and our reference moves video are sent to ByteDance's DreamActor model on fal. For trends that put you into a ready-made scene, such as a famous football goal, your free preview image and our reference video of the scene are sent to Alibaba's Wan 2.2 Animate model on fal, which puts you in place of the person in that video. No other personal information is sent.
- Stripe and Link (a Stripe company) to take payments. Stripe collects your payment details under its own privacy policy.
- Resend to send restore emails, gift emails, and the one email we send when a trend you requested, or a holiday trend you asked about, goes live.
- Meta Platforms (Ireland and United States), through the Meta Pixel described below. Meta uses this information under its own privacy policy, including to show and measure ads.
- Cloudflare to connect visitors securely to our server, protect it from attacks, tell us which country a visit comes from, and forward emails sent to [email protected].
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety or rights. We never sell or rent personal information.
Meta Pixel
We use the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code from Meta Platforms (the company behind Facebook and Instagram), to see whether our ads lead to visits and purchases, and to show our ads to people who are more likely to be interested. It reports these events from your browser: opening a page, uploading a photo that passes the safety check, seeing your free preview, going to checkout, and completing a payment. Events include the trend's name, and for checkout and payments the price and a payment reference. Like any website code from Meta, it also sends the address of the page, your IP address and your browser's details. When you complete a payment, our server may also report that payment to Meta directly, with the same reference, your IP address, browser details and Meta cookies, so it isn't counted twice.
We never send Meta your photos, previews, videos, name, email or anything you type, and we don't use the Pixel's automatic matching features. The Pixel isn't loaded on gift links, restore links or on devices that send a Global Privacy Control signal.
The Pixel uses cookies called _fbp and, if you arrived by clicking one of our ads, _fbc, which last up to 90 days, so Meta can connect visits from the same browser. If you use Facebook or Instagram, Meta may link these events to your account and uses them under its own privacy policy.
To opt out, you can change your settings in Facebook's ad preferences, including whether Meta uses your activity on other websites to show you ads; turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser (we then don't load the Pixel); or block third-party cookies or use a content blocker. You can also use youronlinechoices.eu in Europe or optout.aboutads.info in the United States.
Where your information is stored
Our server is in Victoria, Australia. Some of the providers above process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. We choose established providers and send them only what each step needs.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie: an anonymous ID that keeps your credits and videos linked to your browser, for up to a year. Cloudflare may set a security cookie to protect the site. Your browser also keeps a small note in local storage (not a cookie) of how you first found us and when you last visited, for up to 13 months, so we can count visitors per source without counting you twice; clearing your browser data removes it. The only advertising cookies are the Meta Pixel cookies (_fbp and _fbc) described above. We don't use analytics cookies. If you clear your cookies, your credits disappear from that browser, but you can restore them with your purchase email.
How long we keep it
- Photos, background photos, preview images and safety check results: deleted automatically within 72 hours of upload.
- Videos and their poster photos: deleted 72 hours after the video is made.
- Your anonymous ID, credit balance and video records (no images): kept while needed to provide the service.
- Where you first came from: kept with your anonymous ID. Daily visit totals per source (no IDs) are kept to compare sources over time.
- The days your anonymous ID uploaded a photo or opened checkout, and the approximate country and device type noted at each step: deleted after 40 days.
- Purchase records and your checkout email: kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, generally 5 years.
- Restore links: expire after 30 minutes.
- Trend requests (the link, your note and your anonymous ID): kept while we plan and build trends. Your email, if you left one: deleted as soon as we send that one email, right away if we decide not to build the trend, and in any case after 90 days.
- Holiday reminder sign-ups (your email, anonymous ID and language): deleted as soon as we send that one email, right away if you tap “Remove me” on the page or ask us at [email protected], and in any case after 90 days.
- Gifts: the recipient's email is deleted 30 days after the gift email is sent (or after we give up trying). The buyer's name and message are deleted 30 days after the gift is opened, or after one year if it's never opened. The gift's purchase record is kept like other purchase records.
- Meta Pixel cookies: up to 90 days in your browser, renewed when you visit. Meta keeps the events under its own policy.
- Nightly backups of these records (never photos or videos): kept for up to 90 days on our own devices.
- Support emails: kept as long as needed to help you.
Security
The site is only reachable over an encrypted connection, our server isn't exposed directly to the internet, and only we can access it. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep as little information as we can and delete images quickly.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, such as your checkout email. Email [email protected] from that address and we will reply within 30 days. We may need to keep some purchase records to meet legal obligations. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have rights under the GDPR, including to object to or restrict our use of your information. If you are in California, note that we don't sell personal information. The Meta Pixel may count as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; to opt out, turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser and we won't load it.
If you have a complaint, please contact us first. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) or the data protection authority where you live.
Children
You must be 18 or older to use Try a Trend. On most trends, photos where we can't confirm everyone is an adult are rejected and deleted. Photos for pet trends that show a person's face are rejected and deleted too, and so are photos for vehicle trends where we can't confirm that everyone visible is an adult.
A few family and holiday trends accept photos that include children. Only a parent or legal guardian may upload them, and everyone in the photo must be fully dressed. We use these photos only to check them and make the preview and video you asked for. Like every other photo, they are deleted automatically within 72 hours together with the preview and video, and we never use them to identify anyone, to train AI or for marketing. If you think a photo of your child was uploaded without your permission, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
